I truly wonder if people really know how ActivityPub works, even at the most basic level.
There's currently something like 25,000 ActivityPub instances.
Ya'll have NO IDEA where your public toots are going and who's reading them.
Unless someone is constantly watching the API and where activity is being sent to/from, you just don't have a clue. Not to mention that watching the API isn't reasonable with so many instances in the first place.
Corporations could have already easiliy started up an instance and be using your public toots for AI or whatever they wish. You're just "trusting" that they aren't.
Sure, one COULD look at the API for specific patterns of activity, but how will you know what pattern to look for if you're just "looking" and not actually looking FOR something? 🤷‍♂️
People just don't understand this. If your posts are set to PUBLIC, there's no guarantee at all of who's seeing your toots.
